The Satanic Bible by Anton Szandor Lavey I accept that the roots of 'devil worship' are ancient but Satanism is a root from Christianity. Off course every Satanist denies this. Reading the Satanic Bible I was wondering how on earth it would have been possible to write the book without mentioning Christianity. It gets mentioned/attacked on almost every page. Paganism also gets ridiculed to a lesser degree. As far as I can see, and this was confirmed by reading this book, the foundation of Satanism is a combination of Christian philosophy and practical Paganism/Occult and more specifically Witchcraft & Ceremonial magick. The argument that Satanism is older than anything else is the same argument that the religion Pilaka uses. It is the religion of breath, and since we were breathing from day one it is the oldest religion, it only got a name recently. Ever heard of the religion Pilaka? Nor have I. As far as studies go, the basic form of Paganism is before anything else. The 'Satanic Bible' has a few good points. I am sure that it will have positive psychological effect on nerds, geeks, insecure teenagers and lazy pagans or bored wiccans. It will give them emotional strength, a sense of self-worth and meaning to life. It will make them feel powerful and God-like without the after effects of cocaine and you can say 'fuck you!' to the world without feeling like a teenager. The whole book is based on Anton's personal point of view of what a true Satanists should be like. Oh yes, there are fake Satanists too. I must admit that I loved the blunt way in which he attacks Christianity. He attacks Christianity so much so that it makes you wonder what he has to hide. It is as if he fears Christianity.. Psychologically you always criticize that which you do yourself. Proselytise maybe? ---------------- Let's take some text from the bible shall we? (that is, the bad bible, not the good one. :)): Question: To apply the name of Satan to this church, implies a connection to the Bible. What is the stance of the Church of Satan on these popular tales and predictions? Who is Christ to the Church of Satan? Answer: We take the name Satan in concept only. Any other connection is thrust upon us by anxious, ignorant, and/or misinformed people. The archetype itself, by whatever name is appropriate, is far older than xtianity or Judaism, and it was these religions that, in order to gain a foothold in the world, decided to destroy and bastardise the "pagan gods." Satanists make a distinct division between the Devil and Satan. Satan is usually the Satanic consciousness of the self. The Devil on the other hand is the Christian idea of Satan. Devil worshippers are not real Satanists. "when all faith in lies has waned, it is because man has become closer to himself and farther from "God"; closer to the "Devil" "Satan represents opposition to all religions which serve to frustrate and condemn man for his natural instincts. He has been given an evil role simply because he represents the carnal, earthly, and mundane aspects of life." ---------------- I would like to ask the same question I ask Christians about God. Why is Satan male? If he is male he is not female and because of that has limitations? Both groups have a millions answers to that, but they still divide god/Satan into male gender. --------------------------------------------------------- "Satanism condones any type of sexual activity which properly satisfies your individual desires - be it heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, or even asexual, if you choose. Satanism also sanctions any fetish or deviation which will enhance your sex-life, so long as it involves no one who does not wish to be involved." (I must have a talk to my dog) "The watch word of Satanism is INDULGENCE instead of "abstinence"…. But-it is not "compulsion"" "Under no circumstances would a Satanist sacrifice any animal or baby!….(maybe they can not give consent?)" "There are sound and logical reasons why the Satanists could not perform such sacrifices. Man, the animal, is the godhead to the Satanist…. You are 'allowed' to (symbolically) destroy someone. If your curse provokes their actual annihilation, rejoice. "Satanism believes in complete gratification of his ego." ---------------------- Satanism seems to have more rules than I would ever be comfortable with. You can not sacrifice babies but you can sacrifice some one that has unjustly wrong you. (that's ok then,) You can take revenge but only symbolical. (The air warrior) Suicide is frowned upon unless you die due to over indulgence. (oh, that's allright so) There is no sexual activity that is frowned upon as long as it has mutual consent. (I must have a talk to my dog) I give, up the book just got me confused. No enlighting or interesting information in it. The concepts are logical but impractical. Confused? So am I, thank God for Atheism!
