THE SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT & NINE POINTED STARS.

THE HEXAGON.

Known as the star of David. To the Jews this is a symbol of the House of

David & their religion. It is also known as Solomon's Seal to Kabalistic

Jews & Temple magicians. Occultists see it denoting spirit & matter. But

this symbol pre dates Judaism & can be found in Ancient & Modern Hinduism.

It is known as the Dravidic Star, showing the union of Shiva & Shakti [

Inverted triangle] & this symbol was placed in a circle to represent the

Dual Deity in time & is found in all Hindu Temples datin g back to 28,000

B.C.E. To Neo Pagans & Wiccans it represents the Goddess & God of creation,

the male & female force in the Universe & is a symbol similar to the Yin /

Yang symbol. Wear it well, for it is Pagan though Eastern. It will

constantly rem ind you of the duality of life.

HEPTAGRAM.

The seven pointed star. The number 7 has always been a magical & mystical

number. In Occult philosophy of both East & West it was honoured & worn in

ritual. Ancient India had its 7 Rishis, or wise men & Ancient Greece had its

7 Sages. There were 7 Wo nders of the Pre- Christian world & Christianity has

its 7 Sacraments & 7 Deadly sins, while number 7 occurs frequently in the

Bible. This sacredness of the number 7 is taken from Pagan sources, as it is

found in the famous Pagan romance, "The GOLDEN ASS" by Lucius Apuleius, who

was a priest of Isis. The story is a parable of his initiation, & he tells

how he obtained a vision of the Goddess on the seashore by night, at the time

of the full moon: "Wherefore, shaking off my drowsy sleep I arose with a

joyful face, & moved with great affection to purify myself, I plunged my head

7 times into the waters of the sea, which number is convenable & agreeable to

Holy & Divine things, as the worthy & sage philosopher Pythagoras hath

declared." [ Wil liam Adlington's translation, 1566.]

There seems to be something basic about the number 7 in nature. There are 7

colours in the rainbow, & 7 notes in the musical scale. Western science

recognises 7 chief glands in the human body, called the endocrine glands;

while Eastern Yoga systems s peak of the 7 chackras or centres of force in

mans subtle body. Medieval astrology had its 7 planets, which gave us the 7

day week. Each day was ruled by one of the 7 planets. These rulerships go

back to the days of Ancient Chaldea & Babylon. Also in the northern

hemisphere, we have the most conspicuous constellation of the night sky, the

Plough, or the Great Bear [Ursa Major.] which points to the north star, &

which consists of 7 bright stars.

Occult philosophy connects the number 7 with the planes of the Universe.

There're 4 planes, corresponding to the 4 elements; but as each plane above

the physical has both a higher & a lower aspect, the planes can be tabulated

7. HIGHER SPIRITUAL. [ force FIRE.]

6. LOWER SPIRITUAL. [ force FIRE. ]

5. HIGHER MENTAL. [ form AIR. ]

4. LOWER MENTAL. [form AIR. ]

3. HIGHER ASTRAL. [ force WATER ]

2. LOWER ASTRAL [ force WATER.]

1. PHYSICAL . [ form EARTH.]

The terms "higher & lower" in this connection are purely figurative. The

planes are not places, but states of consciousness & they are

interpenetrating.

All of these manifold correspondences of the mystic number 7 are summed up in

the 7 pointed star, which some traditions in Britain regard as the sign of

authority in witchcraft. These traditions connect it with the 7 qualities,

which they regard us the 7 requirements for attainment in magic: HUMILITY.

RESPECT. TRUST. KINDNESS. TRUTH. HONOUR. & DIGNITY.

The 7 pointed star, therefore makes a suitable lamen for the leader of the

coven to wear. A lamen is an old term for a magical pendant worn around the

neck so that it hangs over the heart. 7 is per-eminently the sacred &

mystical number. Most people are familiar with its popular connotations,

such as the 7 seas, the 7 continents & so on, & the belief that a 7th child

of a 7th child has supernormal powers. But there is an important idea

connected with this number which is less well known, & that is associated

with the magic circle. In the magic circle, we have the 4 quarters plus

height & depth [ above & below.] & spirit in the middle is the 7th.

Moreover, the occult traditions of Ancient Egypt & those of India & Tibet,

declared the human being to consist of 7 principles; not only the physical

body which is apparent to normal sight, but other more subtle bodies also,

together with the mind that animates them. These beliefs were held centuries

before the discoveries of modern physics , which have shown us that matter &

energy are interchangeable terms, & that what we perceive as "solid matter"

is simply energy manifesting in a particular way.

THE 8 POINTED STAR.

Is found mainly in MOHAMMADAN art & decorations. Neo- Pagans use it to

symbolise the 8 Festivals of the year.

THE 9 POINTED STAR.

Known as the Star of the 9 fold Goddess. The Avalonian sisterhood of

Goddesses, the Celtic muses. Each point of the star symbolises an aspect of

the LADIES OF THE LAKE, known collectively as ARGANTE.

The top most point belongs to Ragnell & Yule. Moving clockwise from each

point to point: Dindraine & Imbolc, Kundry & Ostara, Guinevere & Beltane,

Enid & Litha, Igraine & Lughnasadh, Nimue & Mabon, Morgan & Samhaine &

Argante the 9th, the Goddess of the Pagan year.
