AMULET, TALISMAN & CHARM.
An amulet is a magical object, the purpose of which is to avert danger & bane
[ evil] from its possessor. It is a protective device, used by all
occultists.
The Talisman is used to attract some benefit to its possessor, where as the
Amulet acts as an occult shield to repel.
All kinds of things have been & still are used all over the world, to protect
from the dreaded evil eye. Bright blue glass beads were the most popular,
these later developed into eye beads, known as " Evil Eye Beads " which when
empowered returned an y evil to its sender.
The word charm is usually applied to little amulets of silver or gold worn
around the neck or on a charm bracelet. These should be cleansed &
consecrated to endow them with magical power. The word became transferred to
the object itself, which had be en charmed.
The idea that an amulet needs to be charmed or consecrated in order to become
effected dates back to the beginning of time, when such objects were given at
each Life initiation or before a journey. The idea being that a "Lucky Charm"
which someone else gave you is more potent than an item you buy for your
self, for the giver also gave of his / her energy & blessings. So the good
will behind the gift had in a sense consecrated it through their prayers &
good wishes.
Often these charms were especially made for the person by Gypsies & Tinkers &
their name or mark was engraved upon it
The church first found upon this, then started to supply the people with all
sorts of religious charms, which the people then gave back to the church for
consecration for a modest fee. Today it is still big business in Israel &
Catholic countries. Many Ancient magical symbols are regarded as being both
amulets & talismans, able to attract good fortune, as well as repelling bad
luck & evil.
Such for instance are the Swastika, or Fiery Wheel, the Ankh, The Eight
spoked Wheel or Festival Wheel of Arianrhod, The Pentagram, The Celtic Cross
or Elemental Cross, The Bell, The Crescent Moon & many others.
BLESSED BE.
