This rite may be done inside or outside, in the garden or some wild place, sky clad, robed or in street clothes, depending on your circumstances.

Time: usually at the witching hour of midnight on a full moon, use your own intuition, this rite can be done at any time the lady calls you.

Have a ritual bath before rite, use any of the following;

Salt & bay leaves, salt & rose petals, salt & lavender, salt & sage, salt & basil.

Next meditate on the wiccan rede & decide if its right for your spiritual growth at this time.

''Bide the wiccan law ye must, in perfect love, in perfect trust.
Eight words the wiccan rede fulfil; an harm ye none, do what ye will.
What ye send forth comes back to thee
So forever mind the law of three.
Follow this with mind & heart
& merry ye meet & merry ye part.''

When you are ready, bless the water & salt, then light your candle & incense.

[use an equal armed cross for blessing.] With your finger [pointer ] / wand, cast a circle while visualising a blue flame.

Do silent call to the elements, then stand in the goddess & god positions briefly.

Add a pinch of salt to the water & stir with finger 3 times clockwise / deosil.

With finger make a pentacle on your third eye & then lie flat on the ground / floor, close eyes & try to feel the pulse of the earth & universe. [approx 3]

Now stand & say:

O great goddess of the universe
Shining one of the darkened sky
Bringer of hope & joy
You are my mother,
I stand before you this night
& place myself in your hands,
O triple goddess, give me your 3 fold blessings
For I honour the 3 fold law & walk the wiccan way.

Bless cakes & ale & say:

O mother goddess
O father god
Answers to all mysteries & yet mysteries unanswered in this place of power I open myself to your essence in this place & in this time I am changed, from henceforth Ii walk the wiccan path.
I dedicate myself to you mother & father to all creatures great & small.
I will henceforth be known as ..................
May the gods witness my words.

[drink some ale, then continue.]

I breathe your energies into my body, commingling, mixing them with mine, that i may see the divine in nature, nature in the divine & divinity within self & all else.

O great goddess
O great god
Make me one with your essence [repeat 3 times.]

Pause & eat some cakes, drink some more ale & listen to the sounds of the night.

When you are ready stand & say:

Lord, lady, rulers of the elemental realms,
I thank you for your presence,
Accept my offering this night.
[pour some ale on the ground & crumble some cakes, put out your candle, leave incense to burn out & walk 3 times anti clockwise / widdershins around circle.]

This rite is done.

N. B. You will need a copy of ritual, a white candle in holder / in glass if doing an outside rite, matches, incense stick, water & salt in separate bowls, plate of cookies, glass & ale / wine / juice, new name & taper.
