The 13th moon of the Pagan year was always referred to as Blue moon, its name still survives in the old saying " Once in a Blue moon", used to refer to something being a rare occurrence.

When the early Christians banned marriage in the month of May, because of the Handfasting Rites [Year & a day marriages.] which took place at the Pagan Festival of Beltain with its sexual excesses, merry making, dancing & drunkeness, the Mead moon & Honey moon was moved by the church to June, & proper church weddings were conducted then. Today the Christian church's propaganda still rules, any modern bride book will tell you that it is traditional to marry in June & take your Honeymoon then. Most Wiccans & Neo- Pagans prefer the old Pagan Tradition of marrying in May on the Feast of Beltaine.

According to each countries amount of snowfall Snow moon could also change from one month to another, Snow moon always referred to the heaviest snow fall month in the area.

Harvest moons also moved around, depending on when the harvest was gathered & in some places there were two harvests, First Harvest & Harvest Home.
