Casting of Circle and Directing of Power

In Wiccan rites the wand is used to direct power and is to persuade through willpower.

The Athame or sword is used to banish, create the circle, to protect (defence) and to bestow honour in initiation through will power.

The power hand or finger (pointer of power hand) can do the same function.

When casting a circle these words may be said silently or aloud.

This circle is bound,

With power all around,

Between the worlds I stand,

With protection at hand.

Take three deep breaths, relaxing body and calming the mind, now tense your muscles and feel the power build up, raise the power hand with its tool, point to the east and draw your circle slowly while visualising the blue flame as you walk around the circle slightly overlap in the east. Now tread the circle 3 times visualise the flame as you walk around, if dancing sense the flames behind you and the build up of energy within. If some one else is casting the circle, close your eyes and visualise yourself doing it at the same time, this will reinforce the protection needed during the rite.

When releasing the circle with Athame, make a cutting motion first, then pull the visualised flame into your Athame as you progress widdershins around the circle, and silently say; this circle is open, yet ever remains a circle, around me and through me always flows its magical power.

If you just dance around the circle widdershins you collect up the raised power collected within that has not been used in the rite and often feel energised.

The binding of power.

Point Athame at spell work and say;

By the powers of the ancient gods,

I bind this power within this circle into this spell of...

As I will so mote it be.
