Holeystones

Portals Of The Faerie Realm The Holed Stones

These stones are considered "Holy Magical Protective" amulets world wide & have been collected & sought by man since the Stone Age. Today they are still used by Witches, Shamans, Neo- Pagans & others who know of their magical power.

It is considered very lucky to find them, as they are a sign of Faerie /Elemental Blessing & associated with the Goddess known to us as Gaia & by many other names. The first Holy stone very probably was a holey stone, that is, a stone with a hole or holes in it. The reason for its magical power is the same as that of another very Ancient amulet the cowrie shell, namely that it is a female emblem representing the Portal of birth. Hence it is a life symbol & a luck bringer as one could carry it away from the place of origin, unlike the larger Holy stones which were Ancient sites of great power used for magical rites & healing.

The cave entrance was known to the Ancients as a portal into the womb of the Mother & such caves were used for initiation, magic, burial & safety from enemies. Large stones with round holes in them were used as ritual sites for healing, the person being passed through the hole in the stone during the "Healing Rites."  Often large out crops of rock along the sea shore develop holes or archways, these  were considered very powerful places as they represented both the "Water of life " &  the "Earth Mother " & were considered Divine places of worship & Rites of all kinds.  Today the modern Wiccan seeks out these places in the wild, being aware of their power & do meditation, magical dance, healing & other spells near these sites.

The smaller stones are found along the sea shore,& along river banks. But if you keep your eyes open, may also be found in your back yard, along a  busy road & else where. These smaller stones are known by many names, examples are: Hag- stones, Cron e-stones, Holy- stones, Holey-stones, Womb-stones,[cauldron] Midsummer-stones, Luck-bringers, Messenger-stones, Initiation stones, Mother-stones, Portal-stones, Blessing-stone, Faerie-stones, Faerie-portals, Witch- stones, Rebirth-stones & many more. Some of these names are self explanatory, Hag & crone refer to the crone or wise aspects of the Goddess, Womb, rebirth, & mother stones refer to the mother aspect of the Goddess, Portal & blessing refer to both  the Goddess & the Faerie Realm. Initiation is a type of death so refers to the crone aspect. Luck bringer refers to the Faeries,  Messenger stones refers to messagers from the Gods or Faerie realm. Witch stones refers to the fact that witches carry & use them, as do Shamans & Witch-doctors in Africa & America.

The Holey stone is also considered very protective to its owner & also allows  a portal for him or her to gain access into the Faerie Realm through  meditation & ritual work, it is also used in healing rites. This protection  is from rival magicians who are working in the black or dark side of the craft & from elementals that may have been sent against you on the physical  realm & during your roaming on the higher planes. [ dream work & astral  projection.]

These stones have been used in the following ways in the past:   Placed on altars & at Shrines,  left as offerings in fertility rites & spells,  used for divination at Litha,   carried in putsi's for luck & prosperity,   worn around the neck in rituals & when in need of protection,  hung from bed-posts to protect from nightmares, Shamans  attach these stones to Nightmare catchers.

They are also tied around the waist to attract fertility & held in the hand during childbirth for safe delivery & the blessing of the Goddess on both mother & child. It also promoted healing & a healthy recovery, bringing rich healthy milk for the child. [ Initiation of Birth]

Hung in the home for blessing & protection. [ Modern Wiccans attach them to their key-rings.]

Farmers used the stone tied to stable doors to protect horses but only if the stone had been found on the sea shore. Horses were connected with all Gods associated with the sea & the element water.[waves] These stones are worn during love, sex, fertility & Harvest Rites[ Sabbats ] & Esbat for healing spells etc.

The Ancients also buried their dead with these stones to ensure protection during transition through the portal of death & Rebirth. They were placed around the neck or placed within the grave itself.

As the Holey stone repels black magic & negative vibrations, all witches carry them & use them as power tools, often amplifying them with crystals, herbs etc.

It is said [ Folk Lore] that they help one to contact the elemental realms. Looking through the hole in the right conditions such as at Litha [Midsummer] enables one to see faeries. In Aradia, the Witches Gospel of Italy, we are told that to find a stone with a hole in it is a special sign of the favour of Diana. The finder should pick it up & thank the spirit that led him / her to encounter it. This belief like that of the protection & luck of the iron horseshoe is another instance of things that are sacred to the Witches Goddess being protective amulets against the darker uses of magic in the Occult world. The horseshoe nail is also a very potent amulet as it represents the God aspect [phallic symbol] & it should be used when one hangs up the horse shoe in the home.[ 3 nails are used to represent the mating of the Triple Goddess.] Rings made from these nails are very protective & are also used in all banishing Rite s. Horse shoe-nails are often hung with the holey stone or both are carried in the putsi for protection.
