Afghanistan
Imagine there was a country where
black people are discriminated against.
A place where they got told how to dress and got beaten if they
dressed 'improperly'. They have to cover their faces in cloth.
They have to work in separate rooms
to white people. They are not allowed to visit public places at
night or wear colorful clothes in public. They are not allowed
to work with foreign nongovernmental organizations and they are
banned from driving cars.
They are also not allowed to organize
on their own.
Don't you think that the Western
world would condemn this and act out against a country like this?
Well, maybe not if this country does not possess lots of oil or
diamonds or have the potential to be a security risk. Anyway....
Many of the Taliban-era restrictions
are still in place. In some places and under certain leaders the
above 'laws' still apply are are enforced on the Afghan woman.
Is there a difference between sexism
and racism? I think not much.
The Afghan woman is still under the
rule of her husband and state, with or without the Taliban.
